Stories vs Truths: Is What We Know Just A Story? - Dr. Tina Koopersmith
In this episode, I explore a question that quietly shapes our health, our beliefs, and our lives:
What if much of what we call “truth” is actually just a story we’ve agreed to believe?
From Western medicine to ancient wisdom, science to magic, modern life to indigenous ways of living—we’ve been taught to rank ideas as advanced or backward, right or wrong, real or imaginary. But history shows us something humbling: stories change. Science evolves. Beliefs shift. What was once dismissed becomes essential. What was once sacred becomes ignored.
Building on a previous conversation about consent, I expand the idea beyond physical touch. We consent every day—to the food we eat, the air we breathe, the words we speak, the stories we absorb, and the beliefs we allow to shape our reality. Breath becomes sound. Sound becomes language. Language becomes biology, energy, and experience.
We explore how:
Language and belief directly influence health and vitalityWestern medicine’s successes may owe as much to public health, lifestyle, and community as to technologyAncient practices like breathwork, movement, nature, ritual, and community may hold wisdom we abandoned too quicklyScience and “magic” are not opposites—magic is simply what science hasn’t yet explainedShifts in worldview (from geocentric to heliocentric, from Newtonian to quantum physics) radically changed what humans believed was possibleI also reflect on how certain dominant stories—especially those that diminished the feminine, intuition, energy, and connection—may have fueled separation, competition, scarcity, and conflict rather than cooperation, abundance, and love.
At its core, this episode is an invitation:
To loosen our addiction to being right. To stay curious. To recognize how ego rewards certainty—and how wisdom grows when we allow mystery. To remember that direct experience may be closer to truth than inherited belief.Because stories create our reality—but we are always free to experience truth for ourselves.
A conversation about language, belief, power, humility, and remembering that healing—personal and collective—begins when we stay open.
